It appears that Tesla has caught the attention of several luxury automakers.
Land Rover is turning its attention to the American electric automaker and is planning to develop an electric vehicle for its Range Rover lineup.
Likely to be a crossover, expect the Range Rover EV to have a more stylish, low-roofed design rather than the British automaker simply creating an electric variant of an existing model. Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern has recently hinted that the automaker is working on expanding the Range Rover brand with what he called “incredibly luxurious, low-slung” models with more of a focus to on-road performance but still capable of cross-country driving thanks to adjustable air suspension.

If the model does get the green light, it will likely be based on a version of the company’s aluminum monocoque architecture that will be modified in order to store a battery pack. And in order to compete with the Tesla Model X, all-wheel drive with electric motors on the front and rear axles appears to be a certainty.
