The recently introduced Range Rover and Range Rover Sport both ride on a lightweight D7 platform that will be serving as the foundation for more vehicles in Land Rover’s lineup.
The all-aluminum architecture will underpin at least two new vehicles in the near future: the next-generation Discovery/LR4 and the new Defender. The British automaker is revamping its entire lineup with more modern styling, tech upgrades, and smaller engines while shaving weight to enhance fuel efficiency across its models. Only the Evoque and the LR2 will stay on their current platforms; all future models will incorporate the D7.

The architecture will even underpin the new long-wheelbase variant of the Range Rover, which will be targeting the Chinese market specifically. It’s unlikely that a long-wheelbase Range Rover will make an appearance in America.
