Land Rover’s new Range Rover Sport crested Pikes Peak in 12 minutes and 35.61 seconds yesterday to claim a new record.

The time is good enough to top any other production-standard SUV’s race up the 12.42-mile road and even tops the record for any production-standard vehicle. Of course, there needs to be that sort of a disclaimer when a collective body of lunatics compete to see how quickly they can reach the top in race cars every year.

Stunt driver Paul Dallenbach piloted the car through its 156-turn journey and averaged 59.17 mph. He set that record in the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 version of the Range Rover.

The record was timed and sanctioned by Pikes Peak International Hill Climb organizers.
