Jaguar Land Rover and Chery Automobile have officially laid the foundation stone on a new manufacturing facility in China.
The joint venture will see Jaguar Land Rover vehicles being manufactured in China along with new models for the partnership brand. Both automakers will now accelerate plans to build its joint manufacturing plant in Changshu, near Shanghai, now that the Chinese Government has formally approved the joint venture. The new facility will also feature a new research and development center and engine production facility.

The name of the joint venture was also confirmed at the event: Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd. The partnership will also produce models for a domestic brand tailored specifically to local customer demand. The two companies hope to complete their new facility during 2014.
“We are delighted to have reached this milestone, achieved thanks to the understanding and foresight of the Chinese authorities and we want to thank them for recognising the potential of our joint venture in the fast-growing Chinese market,” the automakers said in a joint statement. “Together, we will now begin working in close collaboration on our partnership plans to harness the capabilities of our respective companies, to produce relevant, advanced models for Chinese consumers.”
